About us:
Welcome again to Grizzly Flats Mold Co.
If you are a Bronze Sculptor just starting out. Or a veteran Sculptor like myself. Then you know the prices you pay to have your sculptures molded are very high. I started Grizzly Flat Mold Co. after buying our Sierra retreat, and Studio located at 4000 ft. backing up againts 800,000 acres of Eldorado National Forest in Historic Grizzly Flats, Ca. The Studio sets on a prime forested 15 acre. Sierran wildlife retreat, and sanctuary. with a 1 acre. stream fed pond on the property. And is only 45 miles from Lake Tahoe, Ca., and approximately 25 miles out of Placerville, Ca.
Experience: I bring to my classes over 21 years experience in Bronze Sculpture, Mold making, plus Wax work, and Metal finishing.
I worked nine years for the large West Coast foundry known as the Monterey Sculpture Center, as a Metal finisher, and "Master Mold Maker" I was also manager of the foundries mold department as well. I have made hundreds of molds from sculptor's hundreds of sculptures while at the foundry for bronze production. Including over 80 of my own sculptures which I molded myself I'am proud to say.
Why?: I started Grizzly Flats Mold Co. to help train sculptors like myself the art, and craft of mold making. I like many bronze artist had trouble in the beginning affording the cost of just getting a new piece molded. When I learned to make my own molds myself things realy took off! Learning mold making saved me thousands of dollars, and seemed to set me forward fast into my sculpting career. It truly brought to life my dream of being a bronze sculptor for life.
Decision: So now I decided to teach, and pass on my experience, knowledge, and technique's in mold making, wax work, and metal finishing. To other bronze artist who realy want to learn how to make molds. "Mold it yourself" "Thats what I say"
Class size: Classes will be small my wife, and I will be accepting only 4 - 6 students per week long class, and retreat. This we feel makes for a more personal class of instruction. The classes are "hands on"
meaning bring your own clay sculpture, or what ever you sculpt in for your bronzes. And you will be making your own mold from your own sculpture. I have trained many people in mold making. I will work side by side instucting the small class in the art of mold making.
Accommodations: We have room for up to six small to medium RV's, and or camping space, pitch a tent if you like. My wife Donna will prepare three home cooked wonderful meals each day for the week. And after classes each day you can just relax by hiking our old Historic stage-coach road by our creek. Or just relax on one of our benches by the acre. plus pond. Which is stocked with fish, and turtles!
End of instruction: After completing my instuction, and class on mold making we will hand out certificates of completion.
Then celebrate with a glass of local wine or wines!
